5 things you REALLY need to start making money with CPA

Most people who get started with CPA have the wrong idea about this business. People use to think that it's just a simple way to earn some quick bucks and don't realize that, in fact, this is a real business model. It is possible to be successful in this business, but it involves developing certain skills as well acquiring some knowledge.

The problem is that, since people start in a hurry believing that this is something simple that can be learned in a matter of days, they end up getting overwhelmed with things that are not relevant and ignoring aspects that are vital for an internet marketing business to become profitable.

Before starting a business we have to, at least, stop and think. Usually, it's better to do more than just thinking (a business plan, for example, can be useful), but, unfortunately, most people getting started with internet marketing don't even think and reflect about their goals and the best way to achieve them.

That said, my goal with this not-very-quick-post is to help beginners understand what's really important for them when trying to begin an internet marketing business so that they can avoid unnecessary expenses and focus their investments and efforts on what's truly useful.

1. You NEED to learn how to approach this business properly

As I said above, this is not a thing that will give you super fast results and turn you into a millionaire overnight. I know you've probably heard this a thousand times, and I promise you that the rest of the post will be more interesting, but the fact is that, even though they know that this is not a way to start making thousands of dollars in a matter of days, most people don't completely stop believing in this myth.

Deep in their mind there is always a voice saying "this time it will be different, this is going to work and in the next week I'll be making a lot of money online and will prove to everybody who doubted me that internet marketing is real and it's a great way to make consistent money". This is the wrong mindset. Don't let that voice fools you, it doesn't matter how confident you are, you're not going to succeed the first time you try. Courses can help, but we only learn this in the practice, so you will always have to fail a few times to learn some important lessons and then succeed.

If you don't let that voice fools you, you won't get frustrated after a few failures, will keep trying and, eventually, will reach your goals.

2. You NEED to learn traffic generation

But don't get me wrong here, I didn't say you need to learn a method to generate traffic. You don't need methods. Some tips and tricks from more experienced marketers can help, but you must learn more than a do-this-do-that method, you must learn the real process behind the traffic sources.

For example, if I just give you a few steps to create PPC campaigns on Facebook, that's not going to work. Perhaps, if you're really lucky, you will find a winning campaign, but that's not going to be consistent and you won't be able to build a solid business based on what I taught you.

However, if instead of just giving you a few steps to follow I really teach you the ins and outs of the platforms and explain to you what's the math behind Facebook, you will be able to develop your own methods and systems.

If you know how to optimize campaigns, what metrics to consider, how to analyze your data, how to target your audience efficiently, etc... Then you will create your own process, something that you understand and are comfortable with, and it will allow you to build a long-term business.

Understanding what you really need to learn will help you choose the right courses to buy, but more than that, it will give you the inspiration to test campaigns and learn from your own experiences, because even when you don't make money with your campaigns you will learn something new, and you will value that piece of knowledge. This is what will give you the motivation that you need to keep working on your business without letting frustration catches you.

3. You NEED to learn how tom optimize your campaigns

Oooooopppttttiiiimmmmiiiizzzziiiiinnnngggg...

Here is the Successful Internet Marketer's Mantra.

Seriously, you need to know how to optimize your campaigns. And you need to do it.

The reason why I say this is because many people know how to conduct an optimization process, but don't do it. And it's not because they're too lazy (most of the times), it's because they have a bug in their mind that makes them believe that a profitable campaign is profitable right from the first day. So, if they test a campaign and don't make money with their first attempt, they give up on the campaign and move on.

Quitting campaigns too soon is the best way I know to fail. This will kill all of your winners.

On the hand, quitting campaigns too late is also bad, because it can make the testing phase way too expensive.

So, you need to learn a good optimization process that fits your traffic source and watch your data closely to make the right decisions at the right time.

4. You DO NOT NEED a bunch of courses

You don't have to buy every single course you see. There are many reports and videos available out there, some of them are good and some are just crap, but you don't nee most of them.

Many people complain about information overload, but I see this problem as something very easy to solve: stop shooting in every direction! Define your target, define your goal and then move towards it.

Are you going to do PPC on Facebook? Fine, so focus on learning this model. You can buy some courses, that wouldn't hurt, but make sure that you only get stuff that's related to PPC on Facebook. A course on article marketing would be useless for you, so it doesn't matter how good it is, don't buy it or you will end up getting distracted.

Control yourself. If you can't control your own mind, how do you intend to control other people's? Because this is what marketing is about, convincing people to do what we expect them to do.

5. You NEED to keep it simple

Don't overcomplicate things. Just keep it simple. You won't be a millionaire tomorrow, and choosing a super complicated method that has the potential to make millions won't change this fact.

Being a successful internet marketer requires many things, there are many subjective factors involved and it's not just about having a system to follow. You will have to learn how to think as a successful internet marketer before you become one, so don't do something just because it has a huge potential, do something because it's simple, will make you some money and will allow you to gain experience and improve your skills.

Want to get started with paid advertising? Fine, but don't start with large scale media buys or PPC on search, keep it simple, start with social PPC or even PPV, but avoid the toughest routes.

Keep these things in mind and you will have great chances of becoming a successful internet marketer. Maybe it won't happen tomorrow, maybe it won't happen in the next week, but gradually you will improve your skills and income and in few months from now you will see that keeping focused and working for the long-term pay off.

Also, if you have some money to get started with paid advertising and are willing to invest on training, I recommend you to check SixMonthsFromToday and StackThatMoney. Those forums are full of great information and are well worth the price.
