How to Memorize Things Quickly

Our brains are constantly recording information. This information comes from sensory data such as what you see, hear, smell and feel. How that data comes to us is important as well. When you're learning how to memorize things quickly, the brain needs a system to gather the information in an easy to use and recognizable format. I'll get you started with some steps below that will help you to memorize things faster starting today.

Instructions:
    • 1
      ~Talk About It~
Talk to a friend or family member about whatever you are trying to memorize. This helps tremendously because when you talk to another person about something your brain instantly associates that subject with thousands of other subjects by way of relation. And the brain also will much more likely remember the conversation with another person as opposed to just a silent thought in your head.
    • 2
      ~Simplify It~
Break whatever you're trying to memorize down into smaller categories or groups. This is why phone numbers are broken up by dashes. Those dashes help separate the number into easily recognizable groups for the brain.

      ~Correlate It~
If you're going to successfully learn how to memorize things quickly, this is a big one. Your brain will much more likely remember something if it reminds you of a long term memory that you've never forgotten. Think about what you're trying to remember and think about the things it reminds you of. This goes a long way in memorizing things quickly.

      ~Make it Logical~
I had a psychology professor one time that, on the first day of class, she drew a picture of a tree and each branch was a branch of the psychology field with the base of the tree being experimental psychology. To this day I still remember that stupid tree! Why? Because it was simple and logical. It made so much sense that I didn't have to remember each branch of psychology on its own; I merely had to remember that goofy looking tree on the board from the first day of class.

      ~Exercise Your Brain~
Like every other part of your body, your brain needs to be stretched, flexed, and otherwise used in order to keep it in great working condition. This can be done with a lot of fun by playing brain games like Sudoku and crosswords.

How to Study For A Test

Instruction

    • 1
Know what you're being tested on. Take all the mini assignments (worksheets, study notes, etc.) from the class your studying for and have them all at hand. Most grade school kids have their sheets all in a folder, which is a great idea. An even greater idea is color coding your folders for your classes (ex: red for math, white for writing.)
    • 2
Look over everything, trying to think about what might be on the test. Put stars or a mark on that information.
    • 3
Make a study sheet on the computer. But don't waste all your time making a worksheet. It should only take 5 minutes.
    • 4
Type up the questions and write the answers underneath them. You might also want to research your topic. If you'd like to use this information, the best thing to do is to print it. Once you've printed it, highlight and take note of what you've collected that might be on the test. You can either study this information, or sum it up by typing a report that includes everything that you think with be on the test.
    • 5
Go to a quiet place where you know you won't be distracted.
    • 6
Study these questions over and over again until you are sure you know them perfectly, so perfectly that you even remember the questions.
    • 7
Quiz yourself inside your head, going over the questions and answers over and over. Do this step everywhere, while eating, while going on the computer, before going to sleep at night.
    • 8
Make up a song that is going to get stuck in your head about the information. Its an easy way to know the information!
    • 9
      9. Find a method that works for you and don't let others distract or tease you over that. If that means listening to your study notes on your ipod or using goofy flash cards don't worry. You will do better in the test!
    • 10
      10. What you should do is try this everyday, then you won't be in a hurry and you will be prepared for a pop quiz.

How to Study Physics

Knowing the best way to attack a problem will bring you the best result. Taking that approach to studying physics is no exception. Utilizing a study plan and making it your own will enable you not only to get the most from your physics class, it will also help you pass the final exam. Here is how to study physics and make the grade

 Instructions

    • 1
Maintain a positive attitude. Attitude is everything when you are learning to ride a bike or learning the stresses on a bridge. Know that even if you think you will not be using this information in your adult life, you still will benefit from having learned it.
    • 2
Connect the physics content with your interests when you study. Physics is literally everywhere. If you're interested in water sports, get into studying the surface tension and how the jet ski is able to stay on top of the water.
    • 3
Keep negative thoughts away. Negative self talk during a physics test is sure to get you a failing grade. Tell yourself you are smart and that you can get this stuff. Don't let the internal critic get the best of you.
    • 4
Take time each day to study. It is known that you retain information longer when you take a short time each day to review it. Physics is certainly no exception. Try to revisit your formulas, such as force and acceleration formulas, every day to more easily commit them to memory.
    • 5
Get help if you need it. Tell your parents that you want to do better in physics and you think you need some help. A tutor can give you an individualized study plan geared especially for your learning style.
