How to Memorize Things Quickly

Our brains are constantly recording information. This information comes from sensory data such as what you see, hear, smell and feel. How that data comes to us is important as well. When you're learning how to memorize things quickly, the brain needs a system to gather the information in an easy to use and recognizable format. I'll get you started with some steps below that will help you to memorize things faster starting today.

Instructions:

      ~Talk About It~
Talk to a friend or family member about whatever you are trying to memorize. This helps tremendously because when you talk to another person about something your brain instantly associates that subject with thousands of other subjects by way of relation. And the brain also will much more likely remember the conversation with another person as opposed to just a silent thought in your head.

      ~Simplify It~
Break whatever you're trying to memorize down into smaller categories or groups. This is why phone numbers are broken up by dashes. Those dashes help separate the number into easily recognizable groups for the brain.

      ~Correlate It~
If you're going to successfully learn how to memorize things quickly, this is a big one. Your brain will much more likely remember something if it reminds you of a long term memory that you've never forgotten. Think about what you're trying to remember and think about the things it reminds you of. This goes a long way in memorizing things quickly.

      ~Make it Logical~
I had a psychology professor one time that, on the first day of class, she drew a picture of a tree and each branch was a branch of the psychology field with the base of the tree being experimental psychology. To this day I still remember that stupid tree! Why? Because it was simple and logical. It made so much sense that I didn't have to remember each branch of psychology on its own; I merely had to remember that goofy looking tree on the board from the first day of class.

      ~Exercise Your Brain~
Like every other part of your body, your brain needs to be stretched, flexed, and otherwise used in order to keep it in great working condition. This can be done with a lot of fun by playing brain games like Sudoku and crosswords.
